Organelles found in eukaryotic cells. They catabolise very_long_chain_fatty_acids, branched-chain_fatty_acids, D-amino acids, and polyamines. They also reduce the reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide and biosynthesise plasmalogens, the phospholipids critical for the normal function of the brain and lungs.
Peroxisomes also play an important roll in the pentose phosphate energy pathway.
